VMware Workstation Pro 17 (Lifetime)

VMware Workstation Pro 17: lifetime desktop virtualisation

VMware Workstation Pro 17 lets you build a desktop lab for operating-system experiments, application testing and training. This is the legacy lifetime offer for the named release. Lifetime is not a promise of every future upgrade, unrestricted guest licences or ongoing publisher support. Current Workstation releases also have a free-use option.

Where it helps

• Plan a repeatable lab: keep a known software release for a course, test procedure or existing VM workflow.
• Separate environments: use different guests for different tasks instead of reinstalling your main computer.
• Choose deliberately: establish the exact build and legacy entitlement you need before paying for an older release.

Lifetime and the current free alternative

The term describes use of the supplied legacy licence, not ownership of all future releases. VMware announced free Workstation for commercial, educational and personal use. A purchase of this older offer must therefore be evaluated by its actual legacy entitlement and any explicitly included service—not by a claim that everybody needs a paid key for today’s Workstation.

Compatibility and installation

Identify your host operating system and the build you intend to install. Use the publisher’s host compatibility table and Workstation 17 requirements. Allow sufficient resources for the host and your guests. Follow Broadcom’s installation instructions and the activation flow appropriate to the delivered legacy build; Windows system activation does not activate Workstation.

Questions before you buy

Does Lifetime include new major versions?

No automatic future-version entitlement or ongoing support is promised by the word Lifetime. Those rights depend on the supplied licence terms.

Does this include Windows for every virtual machine?

No. Workstation and the software running inside a VM are different licences. Check guest-use rights before deploying additional copies.

Which other offer should I compare?

Compare the other Workstation Pro 17 listing; the two titles alone do not establish different rights.
